Episode 7: Generations
Wednesday Mar 08, 2017
Wednesday Mar 08, 2017
Join us in Phase Two of our Mission to explore every film in the 'Star Trek' movie franchise from a non-Trekkie perspective with a perfect jumping on point for fans of ‘The Next Generation’ and new listeners in general.
The Spocklight crew have an appointment with eternity and they don’t want to be late: it’s Star Trek: Generations!
Liam ponders the size of the crew’s costume department and questions Picard’s inability to beat up a single normal old coke addict ridden geezer without Kirk’s help. Paul points out Troi’s uselessness as an ‘empathy counsellor’ and recalls his failed attempt to unearth his lost childhood Trek toys. And Matt applauds a great visual gag from the corny holodeck sequence and realises that ooooooh heaven is a place… in space.
Don't get caught between a rock and a hard place like Jean Luc - give in to your temptations and download now!

Episode 6: The Undiscovered Country (w/ Tom Stock)
Wednesday Feb 08, 2017
Wednesday Feb 08, 2017
There is an old Vulcan proverb: miss out on the latest episode of 'Spocklight' at your peril! It's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, the last proper original crew adventure, and consequently, the end of our first chapter too.
Gene Siskel once called it, “a nice movie” but do the Spocklight crew agree?
Well, Liam is firmly on Team Sulu when it comes to the captains and calls out the Vulcans as the underachievers that they are, while Paul chalks up Captain Kirk's involvement in the final battle to a single fist pump and proves himself to be a tough quizmaster when he puts Matt’s TNG knowledge to the test.
The Crew are also joined by Special Guest star, Tom Stock (Bassist in Itunes top 10 rock album charting band, Brightlight City), who blames the sparse Klingon makeup on their evolution but his love for the Bird of Prey doesn't make it any less flimsy and while Matt’s knowledge of Picard and Co. may be severely lacking, he may just regain credibility by uncovering undeniable proof of a shared universe between Trek and the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.
You know where to go... Second star to the right and straight on till Spocklight!

Supplemental 1: The Morality of Star Trek (w/ David Trumble)
Thursday Jan 26, 2017
Thursday Jan 26, 2017
Morality - a particular system of values and principles of conduct.
In the first ever 'Spocklight Supplemental', a new series of Bonus episodes to accompany the main pod, we explore that consistently progressive set of values that Star Trek Creator, Gene Roddenberry instilled in the franchise from the very beginning which, thankfully, continue to resonate to this day.
Regular hosts, Liam and Paul (No Matt this time) are joined for this discussion by Special Guest Star, David Trumble, former Political Cartoonist for 'The Sun' Newspaper (a Job role that we can assure you does not reflect his political beliefs as will become apparent upon listening to this episode) and one of the many Stars of forthcoming Star Trek Fan Film, 'Ambush'.
Please let us know if you enjoy it and if you'd like to hear more 'Supplemental' episodes in the future.

Episode 5: The Final Frontier (w/ Greg Lock)
Wednesday Jan 11, 2017
Wednesday Jan 11, 2017
Beam in for our latest, positively delicious episode as the Spocklight crew take on God!
Join us as Liam discovers a new bible in the form of William Shatner’s very own, 'Captain's Log’ and laments the loss of a murderous unicorn, Paul argues that the DVD menus have better VFX than the movie and cooks up an old McCoy family recipe - Tennessee smoked baked beans, Matt wishes for a band called 'God and the Rock Men' and finally has a 20-year old grudge exorcised through some Sybok inspired spiritual healing, while special Guest Star and Director of Trek Fan Film, ‘Ambush’, Greg Lock, wonders why Uhura ever agreed to her strip-tease distraction and reveals where the crew go to drop a deuce.
Buckle your cinema mandated seatbelts and prepare to row row row your boat as we journey to ‘The Final Frontier’.

Episode 4: The Voyage Home (w/ Adam Johnston)
Wednesday Dec 07, 2016
Wednesday Dec 07, 2016
In our newest episode, The Spocklight crew examine the very 80s ‘Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home’ as Liam reveals his desire for a courtroom based Trek movie and exposes Spock's very questionable tightey whities, Paul attempts to live order a movie-accurate pizza and wonders just how long Gillian has been in charge of the museum tour and Matt calls bullshit on the crew's time travel technique and realises the true villains are the Norwegian whalers.
We also welcome our first guest star, fellow Podcaster and Composer of our theme tune, Adam Johnston, who recalls his Grandparent’s VHS collection and marvels at the slap bass musical stylings of 1980s San Fran.
All that and much more.

Episode 3: The Search for Spock
Wednesday Nov 09, 2016
Wednesday Nov 09, 2016
Battle lines are drawn in our most divisive episode yet as the 'Spocklight' crew join the surprisingly short Search for Spock.
Liam recalls his childhood 'Christopher Lloyd blindness' and reveals one of his favourite movie one-liners...Paul marvels at the easiest Starship heist in history and laments Chekov's terrible pink Pilgrim outfit...and Matt laughs at Kirk's sudden change of heart whilst calling the film the 'Quantum of Solace' of the franchise thus far.
Hear our Crew's adventure continue in the 3rd episode of 'Spocklight'. All that they've loved, all that they've fought for, all that they've stood for, will now be put to the test but they all love a bit of explodey ol' Enterprise.

Episode 2: The Wrath of Khan
Wednesday Oct 12, 2016
Wednesday Oct 12, 2016
Beam aboard the good ship Spocklight as our crew discuss the cinematic equivalent of Hornblower in Space, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
In this episode - Liam debates the legitimacy of Ricardo Montalban's magnificent (and physics defying) chest, Paul praises the genre-heavy cinematic year of 1982 and admits to a certain boyhood crush on one of the crew members of the Enterprise, and Matt questions the necessary levels of realism behind the Kobayashi Maru test and compares Khan's followers to the Lost Boys.
All that and more as the boys get into the groove of their 13 film mission.

Episode 1: The Motion Picture
Saturday Sep 03, 2016
Saturday Sep 03, 2016
Join your crew, Liam Dempsey, Paul Willson, Matt Brothers and Ship Mascot, Aristotle, the Axolotl, on their continuing mission to answer the question: Can someone with no real knowledge of trek become a fan with just the movies to learn from?
First up, we beam back to 1979 for the film that re-started it all, 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture', there is no comparison!
